Parent Engagement

Parent Engagement

Burke Parents and Community,

My name is Darcell Catunis-White, and I am excited about becoming a member of the Bulldog Family as your Parent Liaison. Some of you may remember me in my role as Parent Advocate at Memminger Elementary School where I served for six years.  My other work experience and community involvement consists of being a School Resource Officer (SRO) and an Associate Reading Teacher, with twenty-three years of experience in working with the community, parents, students, and being a community activist. This experience has provided me with the necessary tools to support the parents and students here at Burke High School. I have been trained in the Parenting Partners Curriculum, IEP Processes and Title I Parent and Family Engagement Requirements.  I also participated in the first class of Charleston Rise, a grassroots movement that has one goal: to empower local parents to demand an excellent education for all Charleston students.

I am married to Mr. Edward White.  We have two children-Kaia, a sophomore at Burke High School and Edward, a fifth grader at Sangaree Intermediate School.  I enjoy working with students and in the community, reading and traveling with the Burke High Steppers.

As Parent Liaison, I’d like to invite all Burke High School parents to partner with me and to become involved in this education journey. I am here to support you and your children.  Please let me know how I can be of help.

You can usually find me at Burke on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:00pm to 5:00pm and on Fridays from 8:00am to 2:00pm.  Please call me at 843-534-3499 with your questions and concerns or just to say hello!

Let’s work together to create an environment where learning is the top priority, our families and community feel welcomed and appreciated and our children can fulfill their destinies and dreams!

Be on the lookout for upcoming events at Burke designed just for you. And, let me know if you are interested in being a volunteer.

Thanks for your support!

Mrs. White
