Hello Burke Parents,

The school year is off to a great start, and I’d like to thank you for your support. Parent and family engagement make a school better and stronger. I invite you to partner with us at Burke to make Burke better and stronger.  Some of the positive impacts of schools and families working together include better grades for students, increased high school graduation rates, better preparation for students to transition into college and career and better social-emotional wellbeing.

I encourage you to please attend your child’s scheduled IGP conference. At this conference you will get information about how your child is doing in school, his/her progress toward graduation and you will have the opportunity to ask your child’s teacher any questions you may have. You are also encouraged to volunteer or visit your child’s classroom.

We have some exciting parent and family engagement activities planned for you this year: ECHO and Achieve 3000 workshop in November, Family Fun Movie Night in December and a book study on Becoming by Michelle Obama in March. We are also partnering with Simmons Pinckney Middle School again this year for the Holiday Breakfast in December and Parenting Partners Parent Leadership Training in February. Please visit Burke’s website and Facebook page for more information about these activities.

Thank you for all that you do to support the students and staff at Burke High School.

Cheryl F. Swinton, Principal
